The Process 〰️
The piece began with a desire to bridge my passions for visual and physical art forms. I grew up dancing and performing many styles, but was especially drawn to improvisation and intuitive movement, and I wanted to find a way to invite children into dance even long after my residency ended.
My time working with the children inspired every part of the installation. From the changing seasons, which grew out of our nature-themed movement activities, to the footprints beside the canvases, inspired by our footprint painting days. The children influenced the work in countless ways, including helping choreograph the movements in the paintings themselves.
Overall, the project took over 100 hours to complete. I began with the largest pieces and worked my way to the smaller ones, then rendered the footprints using digital software, and finally painted the frames once all the works were installed.
